FAQ

What documents do you need with my application?

We need your original birth certificate, social security card, proof of income for the last 30 days and proof of pregnancy if pregnant.

Is there a security deposit?

Our security deposit is currently $200.00 and is due the day you sign the lease.

What is the maximum  rent for the 2 and 3 bedrooms?

Currently, the 2 bedroom maximum rent is $547.00 and the 3 bedroom rent is $617.00. Those amounts can vary based on your income. We assess rent amounts annually and they can be adjusted based on HUD's fair market rent.

Is there income guidelines?

Yes, income guidelines can be found at the following website by clicking the current year, state, and county. Public housing goes by the 80% low income guidelines.

Do you allow pets?

We do have a pet policy, but you must fill out a pet application and get approval before bringing your pet to our facility. 

How do we get an application? 

Applications can be completed online, printed from home and completed, or you can pick one up from the box located outside of the office.

Is there an application fee?

No, we do not charge an application fee.

Do you do background checks? 

Yes, we do a background check. The PHA will look at arrests and convictions that occurred within the past 5 years. Individuals convicted of manufacturing methamphetamine on the premises of federally assisted housing or drug-related crimes;  violent crimes; or other crimes that could threaten the health, safety, or right to peaceful enjoyment of the building by other residents or PHA employees will be prohibited. Sex offenders subject to a lifetime registration requirement under a state sex offender registration program cannot be housed. PHAs must also prohibit admission of an applicant for 3 years from the date of eviction if a household member has been evicted from federally assisted housing for drug-related criminal activity.

Do you have to have children to qualify?

All applicants are given "family" status regardless of the size of household. Eligibility is based on income, not family size.

Do you offer emergency assistance?

No, Romney Housing (Valley View) does not offer emergency assistance under any circumstances. All applicants are housed in order of the date, preference points, and time of their completed application.

Can I qualify if I am currently unemployed?

Yes, you would qualify for an apartment if you are currently unemployed. However we do offer incentives for working families. 

How old do you have to be to qualify?

You must be at least 18 years of age to qualify for housing.

Do you have any one level apartments?

We have three(3) one level handicap apartments. The remaining 57 units are 2 levels.
